Laitinen J, Power C, Jarvelin MR. Family social class, maternal
body mass index, childhood body mass index, and age at menarche
as predictors of adult obesity. Am J Clin Nutr. 2001
Sep;74(3):287-94 (pdf 98 K)
Differences in BMI by social class
are formed at least partly during early childhood. Low social
class of the child's family, a high maternal BMI before
pregnancy, a high BMI during adolescence, and early menarche are
predictors of obesity in adulthood.
